The ongoing situation facing Glasgow Kelvin residents living in accommodation with dangerous cladding is a cause of huge concern on several grounds.

It is also a priority for me and the Scottish Government to progress to a positive conclusion as swiftly as possible. I truly empathise with my constituents who find themselves in this unwelcome and alarming situation.

The issues facing residents are sadly not new and have been going on for too long. I pay tribute to my predecessor, Sandra White MSP, who worked with constituents to represent their interests prior to her retirement and I have continued to do so since being elected last May.

The most recent development for one group of residents is the setting up of the Waking Watch, in the wake of the findings of a fire safety risk, following a Single Building Assessment carried out by the Scottish Government late last year.

This is understandably causing great alarm for residents. In the circumstances it is the responsible thing to do and I am glad the Scottish Government acted urgently to introduce it as a temporary measure until the necessary fire safety measures, including a fully compliant fire alarm system, are in place.

I know that dialogue is ongoing with all stakeholders to resolve the fire alarm issue and the issue of cladding itself. Speed is clearly of the essence and I urge the Government and the developers to spare no effort in finding a resolution.

I will work constructively with all parties to deliver a satisfactory result for residents.
