I had a great visit to St Monica’s (Milton) Primary School on 10 June to see how they care for their children’s mental health with the support of Place2Be.
Place2Be has offered child mental health support in Scotland since 2001 and currently reaches over 48,105 pupils and their families in 58 schools.
It is a great example of an excellent in-school counselling service and more. Children’s and young people’s resilience is built up through talking, creative work and play. They also support parents and school staff, helping schools to take a whole school approach to mental health. In St Monica’s they have a drop in for any pupil – The Place to Talk.
Head Teachers can choose to use their Pupil Equity Funding, provided by the Scottish Government on the basis of need, to support the most vulnerable children and families, supporting partnership working between school and home.
Thank you to Sahir Parnell, Place2Be’s Director for Scotland, for arranging this visit for me.
And a big thank you to the children and staff of St Monica’s for such a warm welcome. I hope to be back!
